Pat joined the R.C.N.V.R. in 1941 and served on the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific; he was discharged in 1945. Pat and Kay were married on May 1, 1947, and they farmed Tom’s land following his retirement that year, and raised their family in this home.
In January, 1962 an agreement was entered into between the Stanhope Beach Development Association and the Horgans for the purchase of approximately 108 acres of their land at a price of $20,000, for the purpose of building a golf course; and this agreement was registered on June 22, 1962. Patrick and Kathleen bought one acre of land from Keith Douglas in 1962, fronting on the Stanhope Main Road, and their new house was built there by MacKinnon Bros. of New Haven, also in 1962. Pat worked as a greenskeeper when the golf course started up. The Stanhope Post Office was in the Horgan home from 1963 to 1968; Kay was paid $40.00 a month for this service. Kay Horgan and Edith Marshall started the 4-H garment club in Stanhope; Kay worked in the cafeteria at Charlottetown Rural High School, at Zellers, and with the Hospital Services Commission.
