The Kiellys have a foster son, Donald Keith MacInnis, born on February 17, 1945, who has been with them since he was 14.

Lorne was born on April 26, 1924, the son of George Henry Kielly and the grandson of Malcolm Shaw Kielly. He was married on November 15, 1945 to Della Etta MacKay of Bangor, P.E.I., who was born on April 1, 1926 in Saskatchewan. Lorne and Della bought half an acre of land on the Bayshore Road in Stanhope in 1964 from Mrs. M. Calder and built a cottage there in 1965. They began winterising the cottage in 1977, built on to it in 1980 and 81, and moved from Charlottetown to live year-round in Stanhope in 1979.
