Peter; see the Higgins family history. Cornelius died in 1825 and Isabella on Sept. 17, 1835; they are both buried in Stanhope cemetery.
Margaret was born on November 20, 1753 and was baptised on November 29, 17 53. We have no record of Margaret or of Janet, above, on the Island; they may have died young, or they may have remained in Scotland.
Elizabeth (Betsy) was baptised on August 8, 1755 and came on the Falmouth. She married James Curtis between April 24, 1780 and January 7, 1784; they had one son and lived at “Poplar Grove” in Stanhope, see James Curtis’ history.
James, the youngest, was baptised on April 7, 1760. He was married on July 14, 1791 by the Rev. Theophilus DesBrisay to Elizabeth Millar, 4th daughter of John and Catherine (McIvor) Millar; they had 10 children, see below. Because James was known to be a good farmer, he was asked to manage the MacDonald Glenaladale Farm in Lot 35; the 1798 census for Lot 35 shows James living there with one male and four females in his household. Eventually he came back to Stanhope and settled on land known as the “Mount Joy” farm. This property was later divided among his 3 sons, David, John and James; the remainder of their family being girls: Catherine, Helen, Margaret, Isabella, Elizabeth, Jane and Mary. James died on November 10, 1833 from an attack of inflammation of the bowels, and Elizabeth died on November 18, 1850; they are both buried in Long Pond cemetery.
It is now time to consider David and Helen’s grandchildren, of whom there were at least 40, and then to [continue with the myriad descendants that we can trace.
