was a farmer and shipbuilder. He married Isabella Marshall and they had two sons, George and Robert, and two daughters, Ellen and Matilda. Ellen was living on February 25, 1867, when she and Matilda signed the deed which released their share of their father's farm to their brother George for the sum of ten pounds; neither of these was able to sign her name. There is no further record of Ellen; Matilda married James Chandler of Charlottetown . Children of John and Isabella (Marshall) Lawson 1. Matilda, b. 1836, d. 17 Dec, 1898, bur. George Lawson , born in 1841, was better known as "Geordie", to distinguish him from the George Lawson who lived where Ray Can- lives today. It is told that Geordie sold his farm, where Dalvay Hotel is now, to pay for a big party on the occasion of his wedding to Susan MacGregor . It is not really clear where they lived in Stanhope ; however, we do know that they lived on the Leitch property across the road from Stanhope Church when it was being built in 1879-80. The road was often referred to as Geordie's street. When their son Ewen died, they were living in a house in the field behind where Alvin MacLauchlan lives today; this old house eventually burned. When their son Henry built a new house for them, they lived across from the church once again; this house was later moved. Children of George and Susan (MacGregor) Lawson 1.
