daughter of Peter and Margaret (Enie) Gregor, who came to St. John’s Island on the John and Elizabeth in 1775. John and Margaret settled on 100 acres of land at Black River, Lot 33, and had four children: Jennet, Margaret, James and John Jr. John McGregor died on February 16, 1832, and is buried in Brackley Point cemetery, with his wife Margaret, who died in 1844.

1. Jennet, b. 4 Apr., 1792, bapt. 31 Mar., 1793 by Rev. Th. DesBrisay, d. 1 Oct., 1864. m. 1. 1812-13 as his 2nd wife to Duncan MacEwen. 3 s. m. 2. 1834 as his 2nd wife to Michael James Doyle, shipwright, of Clifton, New London. 1 dau., Amelia. m. 3. to a Mr. Cameron of Clinton, near N orboro.

2. Margaret (Peggy), b. 1794-5, d.ca. 1835, bur. Brackley Point cemetery, never m., had 1 son. Benjamin MacEwen by her sister’s stepson Benjamin “the astronomer” MacEwen. Margaret lived in Charlotte Town and worked as a seamstress; after her death Benjamin (b. 1816) was brought up by his uncles, James and John Jr. below. See also MacEwen history.

3. James, b. 1797, d. 29 Dec., 1874, m.ca. 1821 to Jane Brown (b. 1798, d. 22 Jan., 1881 aet. 83, bur. Brackley Point cemetery), eldest c. of John and Isabella (Lawson) Brown of Cove Head. 9 c. James was a ship carpenter at Rustico.

4. John Jr., “Honest John McGregor", b. 1802, d. 19 Nov., 1879 at the home of his son-in-law Isaac Foster, New Perth, Lot 52; bur. Brackley Point cemetery. m. 1. ca. 1830 to Elizabeth Bovyer (b. 7 Nov., 1806, d. 12 Aug., 1851), eldest c. of Samuel L. and Ann (Lawson) Bovyer of Stanhope. 11 c. m. 2. 1855-6 to Elizabeth Brown (b.ca. 1836, living in 1861), 3rd dau. of James C. and Catherine (Smallwood) Brown of Cove Head, 2 dau.

James and John Jr. inherited 50 acres each of their father’s land at Black River, both eventually selling to Ewen MacMillan, in 1830 and 1843; Ewen conveyed the.100 acres to his son Lauchlan MacMillan in 1866. James moved to South Rustico where he leased 100 acres. John Jr. bought the lease of 100 acres of land in Harrington from John Martin on March 24, 1843; he sold the lease of this property to his cousin Duncan MacCallum in 1872 and went to live with his daughter Jane and son-in-law Isaac Foster, at first at Stanhope, then at New Perth, whither the Fosters moved in 1878; John died there in 1879 and was buried at Brackley Point.
