acquired clear title to 82 acres of land on the east shore of Bedford Bay, fronting on Blooming Point Road, bounded by the farms of Matthew McInnis and Phillip Smith. Dougald and Mary McIsaac are buried at St. Bonaventure’s, Tracadie.

2. Sally, b. 1 Oct., 1841, Stanhope, presumably died young. 3. James, b. 28 July, 1844, Stanhope. d. 'l‘racadie Cross aet.ca. 30, bur. Tracadie.

4. Catherine, b. 1846, Stanhope, m. 27 J an., 1869 to James King. “Kate” and James lived at Donaldston. 7 c., Elizabeth (Mrs. Barney McCabe), Mary, Bridget, William, Joseph, Adelaide and Victor.

5. Alexander, b. Oct., 1848, Stanhope, m. 1. 5 Oct., 1875 to Theresa McAskill, 2 c., Alan and Sarah Jane. m. 2. 14 Feb., 1888 to Agnes McInnis, dau. of Matthew and Catherine (McDonald) McInnis; 8 c., Mary, Theresa, Hannah, James, John, Joseph and twins Barney and Neil. Alexander and his family lived on the farm inherited from his father, Dougald McIsaac, on the Blooming Point Road.

6. Isabella Catherine, b. 15 July, 1850, Stanhope. “Bella” lived in Halifax, NS.

7. Elizabeth, b. 1854, Stanhope, m.ca. 1890 to Peter Steele; 7 c., Lauretta, Mary Eugenia, Aloyisius Engelbardt, twins Aloyisius Bonaventure and Wilfred Stanislaus, Ernest Francis and Dougald Frederick. “Betsy" and Peter Steele and family lived at Blooming Point, then moved to Nova Scotia.

8. Eliza, b. June, 1856, Stanhope, d. May, 1933, Grand Tracadie,_bur. Corran Ban, m. 18 Oct. 1882 to James McKinnon (b. 1858, Georgetown, (:1. 10 Jan., 1930, Grand 'l‘racadie, bur. Corran Ban), son of Donald and Mary (McInnis) McKinnon. Eliza and Jim McKinnon, a fisherman, lived at Grand Tracadie; 3 c., Benedict, Mary Isabella (Mrs. John McNabb) and Daniel Joseph.

9. Sarah Jane, b. J an., 1859, Stanhope, m. 29 Jan. 1877 to Alexander McAskill. Sarah Jane died after the birth of their first child, Patrick, on 19 Mar., 1879.

MacLAREN

Duncan MacLaren was born in Perthsire around 1730. He pro- bably came on the Falmouth, with a daughter Jean, who married Duncan MacEwen in 1771, and possibly a wife and other children. He had mail waiting for him at the Halifax Post Office in January, 1773, and also in 1774 and 1775. (Names of settlers who had mail waiting for them were published in the Nova Scotia Chronicle and Weekly Advertiser). There is no further record of his being on the Island, and no MacLaren was listed in the census of April, 1798; so he must have either died or left the Island before then, together with any sons he may have had.

Duncan’s daughter Jean witnessed a deed dated 30 Apr., 1803 (transferring a lease for 150 acres of land from her son-in-law Kimball Coffin to her son James MacEwen) and the fact that she could write,
