Joyce was the last MacLauchlan to be born at home in Stanhope , as after this, all the MacLauchlan babies were born in hospital. Joyce clerked at MacLauchlan's store in Stanhope before taking a secretarial course at Union Commercial College, then worked at Maritime Electric for four years. After his father's death in 1943, Malcolm MacLauchlan , second son of James and Isabel, continued to farm the land inherited from his father. In 1946, a bungalow was built on this property for his mother (carpenter, Robbie Brown), while Malcolm and his bride, Erma, occupied the large farmhouse across the lane. A progressive and energetic farmer, Malcolm divided his devotion between his land, family, community and church. After Malcolm's early death, his widow, Erma, and their children continued to farm here for seven years before they sold the property and moved to Charlottetown in 1973. James, b. 9 July, 1954; m. 1 Dec, 1972 to Martha Leach (b. 26 Sept., 1949, Rumford, Maine), dau. of Roy and Louise Leach of Tilley, N.B. James is Sales and Service Representative for Co-op Farm Equipment; they live in Charlottetown . 2 c, Timothy and Michael. Following his discharge from the RCNVR in 1945, Alvin Mac ?? Lauchlan, fourth son of James and Isabel, purchased a 60-acre farm at Stanhope from the Director, the Veteran's Land Act . This was the former Will Ross property, bordering on and Creek, and fronting on the main road leading to Charlottetown ; it was part of the 80-acre parcel deeded to Malcolm Shaw from the Montgomery Bros . in 1825. Alvin sold approximately 2 acres of road front from this property to his brother, Harry, who erected a general store, and later, a home and summer cottages. With plans in the offing for a proposed 18-hole golf course, an option on 30 acres of shore property was turned over to the golf course directors in 1969.
