Postscript On Sunday, March 14, 1982 the family of George and Elsie MacMillan celebrated their parents' 60th wedding anniversary with an elegant "Open House " at the Stanhope-Covehead Community Hall, catered by the Stanhope Women 's Institute. The guests of honour, who were in splendid form, received gifts, cards, money, flowers, and memoirs from their many friends and relations who dropped by to extend congratulations and best wishes; it was a most happy occasion, much enjoyed by all. MARSHALL By family tradition, Alexander (Sandy) Marshall came to Stan?? hope in 1770 from Aberdeen, Scotland ; We have no record of his being on the Falmouth ; however, he was married on February 2,1796 by the Rev. Theophilus DesBrisay to Jane Brown , daughter of Lawrence and Jean (Jamieson) Brown, and they had eight children. In the 1798 census his household consisted of himself and Jane, both aged between 16 and 60, and one female under 16, their daughter Elizabeth, who later married Martin Power of Stanhope . Children born later were John, Alexander, Isabella, Jane, Robert, Betsy and Lawrence. John went abroad, to the west, and there is no further information on him; it is said he was upset over his sister Elizabeth marrying Martin Power. The third son, Robert, born in 1806, remained in Stanhope , marrying Catherine McGregor from Lot 48 in 1839; they had nine children, and the present-day Marshalls of Stanhope are their descendants. The second son Alexander married Christy Stewart of New Glasgow and the youngest, Lawrence, married Betsy, daughter of James Curtis Brown . Daughter Isabella married John Lawson of Stanhope , Jane married James Coffin of Fortune, and Betsy, the youngest daughter, married William Shuttleworth Lawson of Stanhope . Of the nine children of Robert Marshall and Catherine McGregor , the eldest son, John, was a fisherman, married Mary MacPherson , had four children and lived in Stanhope , later moving to Kingston . The next son, Robert Jr ., married Cordelia Kielly and had ten children, remaining on the family farm. The youngest son, Louis, married Katie Belle Carr , and lived in the house, previously Henry Lawson's, now occupied by Louis' son Warren. Robert Sr .'s daughter Annie married John Hughes , and his daughter Charlotte married George Douglas . Children Susan, Jane, Margaret and David did not marry. We have no information as to land leased or owned by Alexander Marshall , but in 1841 his son Robert was renting 80 acres leasehold from the Montgomery brothers, with 4 years of the 999-year lease 420
