The Simpsons were asked, as part of a Tourism questionnaire, what brought them to P.E.I. in the first place, and why they continued to visit, and eventually to live here. The answers: because they heard, from their paediatrician, Dr. Alan Ross, that it was a beautiful unspoiled place and great for small children. They came back again

and again because they fell in love with the Island; the love affair continues.

1. Jean Mary, b. 1942, London, England, In. 1963 to Frederick C. Drury. They have two c., Heather and Ian, and live in Wheaton, Illinois. Jean has an Honours B.Sc. from McGill and is currently working as an RN.

2. Robert Bridgeman, b. 1946, m. 1972 to Anne V. Smith. Robert is with Air Canada (Flight Dispatch); they live in Georgetown, Ont.

3. Timothy George, b. 1954, B.A., specialisation in Psychology from Concordia University, Montreal.

SMITH

Douglas Raymond Smith and Faye Shirley Lawson were married on September 30, 1978. Douglas, born May 26, 1954 is the second son of Raymond and Helen (Redmond) Smith of Shad Bay, N.S. His family lived at C.F.B. Summerside during his teenage years. He received a Business Administration Degree from U.P.E.I. in 1976 and worked in Halifax before returning to live on P.E.I. He is employed by the P.E.I. government.

Faye was born on June 4, 1956, the daughter of Harry and Shirley Lawson of Stanhope; for details on Faye please see the Lawson family history. Doug and Faye lived in Charlottetown for two years and in 1980 built a house in Stanhope on land given to Faye by her parents; they moved to live in Stanhope that year.

STEAD

William Stead (b. 1767, d. 8 Sept., 1839 at Tracadie, aet. 72) and his wife Mary Lawson, widow of Robert Bovyer, lived in Stanhope in the early 1800s. William Stead, a blacksmith, came to the Island in 1817 on the Valiant, Capt. Izzard, from Hull, England. He was a widower and lived at Millcove at first. He married Mary Lawson Bovyer on January 26, 1825. She was born on August 13, 1793 and
