Footsteps Across The Bridge 273 In this history our past has indeed become a known past, befriended through research, reflection and writing, which have brought alive the in- dividuals, families and society of which it is comprised. The inspiring enter- prise and quality of life in bygone days have been examined and found worthy of praise. It is not our part to rely on achievement. Our comfortable age exists, not by accident, but because of the enduring values of industry, perseverance and integrity, which characterized the daily lives of our early settlers. Even now, these qualities seem to predominate, judging from the wholesome atmosphere prevailing in our community. We must ensure that the outward appearance is not the best part of Wilmot Valley to-day. In this relaxed age, it is essential to cherish the enduring values which were the sustenance of our forefathers.
