REVEREND PATRICK DOYLE — 1890-1907 The Third Pastor at Vernon River
Father Doyle was born at Lot 7 in the year 1839. At an early age he attracted the attention of his Pastor, the Reverend Peter MacIntyre, who had evidently discovered in him those mysterious signs that point out those “called by God as Aaron was.” Indeed Father MacIntyre became so interested in the young boy that he had him come to live with himself at Tignish, where he might have the opportunity of attending the village school, and at the same time be initiated into the mysteries of the Classics under his own personal supervision. When St. Dunstan’s College opened its doors, Patrick Doyle was among the first to enter its halls, and five years later, his early patron, now a bishop, sent him to Quebec, where he entered the Grand Seminary for the study of theology.
