On February 8, 1973, the village received a Local Initiatives Program ( L.I.P .) grant to run a youth program at the new community hall. Two full-time employees offered a full schedule of activities for all children 3 years and older. The hall was open Monday through Saturday, morning, afternoon, and evening. From February 8, 1973 to June 29, 1973, an average of 56 children attended the hall each day. The L.I.P . grant program continued for several years. In the fall of 1973, community volunteers constructed an outdoor rink beside the community hall. The community purchased hockey equipment with $585 made available by the Centennial Grants Committee. 21
