83 Obituaries Mrs. Edwin MacDonald The district of Sturgeon and surrounding areas were shocked and.saddened by the sudden death of Mary C. Mur ¬ phy at the Kings County Memorial Hospital on March 19, 1981. Born on June 26, 1915, at Newport , daughter of the late Eugene and Catherine Delorie (MacDonald). She was a school teacher for 39 years. She was predeceased by her husband William who died sud¬ denly on December 25,1978. She leaves behind the memory of a wonderful mother and grandmother1. Left to mourn her passing are sons Norbert, Cantley, Quebec ; Willie, at home; daughter Judy ( Mrs. Kevin Power),; Joanne, Blair, Roy, Jennifer; Power and Anthony Murphy . Sisters Rose ( Mrs. Da veil Davis), Medford, Oregon, U.S.A. ; Nor¬ ma ( Mrs. Roy Dutcher ), San Diego, California ; Claire ( Mrs. Raymond Murphy ), St. Mary's Road ; brother Frances Delorie ; Montague; her aunt Frances Delorie , Georgetown, P.E.I. Her funeral was held March 22, from her late residence to St. Pauls Church, Sturgeon , where funeral mass was pelebrated by her pastor. Father W.D. MacDonald . Pallbearers were six nephews of the deceased: William Lannigan , Neil Lan ¬ nigan, Rudy Lannigan, Shane Murphy, Gene Murphy , and Gerard Murphy . Flowerbearers were:Timmy Murphy, George Creed , Alfred Condon , Alex Jamieson , Dan McCarthy , Peter Llewellyn , Billy Garnham, Anthony Creed and Billy Johnston. Murphy In almost, what seems like a fulfillment of lines from a fav¬ orite poem of hers by Walt Whit¬ man, "That she might with¬ draw unnoticed, silent from life escape and withdraw, to follow, to seek, to be with her dear dead husband". Mrs. Edwin MacDonald passed awav on April 27. 1975 in the Charlotte- town Hospital. Through 77 years, Adele, as she was familiarly known, dedicated every possible moment to the service of God and her neighbour. She was born in Georgetown , the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and in 1920 married Edwin MacDonald of Panmure Island who predeceas¬ ed her by four years. Her child¬ ren, Father Andrew , C. Ss.R., of Toronto , William on the home¬ stead, Sister Therese of Fort- aleza, Brazil, Edwin of Pictou, N.S. . Paul of Bridgewater, N.S. , and Isobel of Montreal and six grandchildren. Flora, James, Maragret, Lauretta, Charles, Thomas and Adele survive her. Of her immediate family, three remain, Amby ,1 Los Angeles, Calif. . Agnes of New York and Kathleen of Charlottetown with whom she had planned to spend her final years. Dell's life could be divided into several periods but in each she was predominately a mother and a teacher. Many representa¬ tives from each era gathered at the parish house in Sturgeon to bid her their last farewell. Her family home, the school in Georgetown and Prince of Wales College were the first to pre¬ pare her for life's duties. School¬ children in Panmure Island , Sturgeon and in Vawn, Sask., knew her before her married life. During her 49 years as a devoted wife and mother, she also taught school and cared for her aged father-in-law. Church and community functions always played an important role and added new interests and friends to her rural environ¬ ment. Life in the rectory In Sturgeon with the pastor, Rev. Edwin Steele , were the immedi¬ ate preparation for her "chang¬ ed" life of the next world. Here tie ,was able to assist at daily consolation, mass9'Wa*s'' Church, Sturgeon ' oh' where her numerous acquaint' ences gathered to pray, as their final tribute to a lifetime friend. The principal celebrant was her son, Rev. Andrew MacDonald , C.Ss .R., with Rev. Edwin Steele , Rt. Rev. G.A. MacDonald , D.P ., Rev. Preston Hammill , Rev. Simon McGrath . C.Ss .R., Rev. Howard Wight , Rev. Joseph Mc- Greel, C. Ss.R,., Rev. William Fitzgerald , C.Ss .R., and Rev. Gerard Tingiey as con-cele¬ brants. The scripture lessons were read by her daughter and son, Sister Therese and Edwin. The hymns which accompanied the mass were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Leith McCarron . The homily was delivered by Rev. Edwin Steele . Present in the sanctuary besides His Excel¬ lency, Most Rev Francis J. Spence , Bishop of Charlottetown who read the prayers of com¬ mendation and farewell, were Rev. O.P. Wood , Rev. Floyd Mc- Gaugh and Rev. Brother Dam- ten, C.Ss .R. In the church cemetery. Rev. E.B. Steele conducted the com¬ mittal service. Neighbours, whom she had known and loved for many years, Glen Partridge , Joseph MacDonald , Lloyd Reici , Andrew Campbell , Atwood Llew ¬ ellyn and Alex Jamieson laid her to rest.
