In 1989, another amalgamation took place when the railway system was removed from the Island. The Breadalbane Post Office closed. This meant that the postal sorting centre became part of Hunter River or Kensington, with the dividing line for mail delivery being the Stanley River. Most of the residents West of the river receive mail from Kensington, while those to the East receive theirs from Hunter River.
On the larger scale, mail Couriers today transport mail to the Island from large depots located in Halifax or Moncton. Automatic sorters, which only recognize the “Postal Code” system, have, according to Canada Post, speeded up the delivery of the ‘mail’.
Some of the Mail Couriers in the area include:
James Warren Honeywell Bulman Sarah MacKay
Fenner Stewart Joseph 1. Stewart Frank Bell
John S. MacKay Earl Henry Hugh MacRae
Lorne Stewart Evelyn Stewart Brian MacNeill
in the 1990’s (East of river) - Betty Gaudet (West of river) — Rose Bernard
