CLARK FAMILY

Four children of the family of John C. and Annie Margaret Simpson Clark of Stanley Bridge became Doctors and worked in various parts of the world.

1. Dr. Martha Clark (1868-1928) served as a Missionary with the Canadian Baptist Mission in India. She worked in Sompeta, India, for thirty-eight years. 111 health forced her to return to Prince Edward Island. She is buried in Cavendish Cemetery.

2. Dr. Judson Clark (1870-1942)

3. Dr. Jeremiah S. Clark (1872—1949) was the first Medical Missionary to work among the aboriginal people in Western Canada. He also served in the Canadian Medical Corps during World War I. He later practiced in Winnipeg, MAN. He retired to Saskatoon, SASK.

4. Dr. Zella Clark (1875—1957) worked with the Canadian Baptist Mission in India. She travelled to various areas of the country setting up dispensaries for medicines. She also helped her sister in the operation of a girls school in Sompeta, India. She is buried in Cavendish Cemetery.

SISTER MARY FLEMING

Sister Mary Fleming was the daughter of Dr. James and Clara (Hogan) Fleming. She received her early education in Stanley Bridge and at St. Augustine’s Convent in South Rustico. She then entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in Montreal. Following profession, she taught school in Montreal and later in Charlottetown and Summerside. She died at an early age, having fulfilled her mission of loving and serving God and his people through her teaching. She is buried in Montreal.
