TRIBUTE TO HILDA FYFE Over the years Sterling Women 's Institute has been fortunate to have had a number of individu¬ als who have given dedicated service and exceptional leadership. Hilda Fyfe is one of those women whose long service and commitment to "Home and Country" has been meritorious. An Honorary President, a Life Member, and currently the longest serving member of Sterling W.I ., Hilda Hiscott Fyfe has held every executive office in this organization. The motto Hilda lives by was "either do it right or don't do it at all". She could be counted on to effectively carry out any task she undertook. Over the years many other organizations would benefit from the community-minded spirit of this energetic individual. The Red Cross Society honoured Hilda for twenty-five years of volunteer service in organizing swimming classes, blood donor clinics, first aid, and other related activities. As a member of the , Hilda has the distinction of being a Past Matron of Regent Chapter No. 52 and a Past Grand Officer of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island . The com¬ mitment to church was evident by her service in the Women 's Missionary Society, later the United Church Women 's Organization. Again, Hilda held every office in these organizations. Hilda could be counted on to canvass the district for many worthy causes. For years she col¬ lected the dues for the community disposal site. She chaired numerous functions, and like so many women she never left home empty-handed, always carrying sandwiches or squares for lunch at community functions and meetings. All this she accomplished while at the same time working in concert with her husband, Elmer, in the farming operation and the parenting of their four children. In 1992, to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Confederation, a medal was struck by the Governor General of Canada to honour Canadians whose contributions to the community and country were noteworthy. Hilda was a recipient of this high honour and at a public ceremony, was presented the 125th Anniversary Medal by the Honourable Catherine Callbeck , premier of Prince Edward Island . v *■ .^-f'* 4*1 H %>* 4" Hilda Fyfe being presented with the 125 Commemorative Medal by Premier Catherine Callbeck 1 S 6
