McNEILL MacNEILL
After working for a number of years in the United States, AUSTIN MacNEILL and his wife ANNIE (MacEWEN) returned to the Island and took up farming on the Dr. McNeill property. The former Dr. MacNeill Home burned in the early 1920’s. A new home was built by Austin and Annie. They had no Children, so following their deaths, the property owners were Austin’s brothers, Alfred and Daniel. Alfred was not married and lived in Stanley Bridge for a number of years before moving to Charlottetown. Daniel was sole owner after Alfred’s death. Dan sold part of the property to Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Beer, Summerside. Today this site is owned by Catherine MacKinnon and her husband, Donald Harron. The house and land is owned by ‘Joe’ Schurman, formerly of Summerside. It is still on the original site at the ‘top of the hill’ on the west side of the bridge. The land across the Mill River Road is farmed by Cavendish Farms

The Beer family added an upstairs to the cottage which Dan MacNeill had hauled to the shore a few years previously. They winterized the building and spent many years enjoying the home by the water which Gladys referred to as their “haven of peace”. The season changes from summer
