McMILLAN

EWEN [E.H.] McMILLAN (1797 Feb. 27, 1864 ) is known to have been the Stanley Bridge Post Master in 1889-90 His brother, Alexander would have died before this date. Mr. A]. MacLeod is listed as his Assistant in the store. Ewen is also listed as an import and export mer— chant. No record has been found to indicate that he was a married man. He is buried in South Granville Cemetery.

A third brother, HENRY McMILLAN (1819—1892) was also associated with the store and ship— ping business.

Henry married Ida (1835-1927) daughter of Mary (Bell) and James Townsend MacLeod, BayView. Henry operated the store for a few years and resided in the house next to the store. This family moved to Vancouver, BC. Charles Kielly purchased the store in 1903. Albert Morris and Watson Fyfe purchased the store from the Kielly’s in 1908. In 19l0 the name of the store changed from Morris & Fyfe to Weir & Fyfe.

A note of interest is that HECTOR McMILLAN (1771 May 16, 1853 ) a native of Argyleshire, Scotland, who is named as the father of ALEXANDER, ARCHIBALD, EWEN

and HENRY is also buried in the family plot. The name of his wife is not listed.
