The house had another move further along Route #6 to Margate when Mrs. Hilda Woodside Duggan sold it to Philip and Georgina Henderson in 1956. MacKAY BROS . K.R. MacKAY General Store After World War II ended, Kenneth and Wendall MacKay, sons of John S. and Myrtle MacKay of the , purchased the General Store on the west side of the Stanley River from Mrs. Alma Fleming , of Stanley Bridge . This sale is dated Sept. 12, 1947. Within one year the store business of MacKay Bros , was assumed by Kenneth and Audrey, and became the K.R. MacKay General Store. Wendall was not enjoying good health following his return from the war. He was placed in the Provincial Sanitarium and remained there for a numĀ¬ ber of years. After he regained his health, Wendall went on to further his studies to become a lawyer. Audrey and Kenneth lived in the apartment above the store from 1948 to 1961. At this time they built a new home across the road from the store, When Earl Carr resigned as Post Master of the Stanley Bridge Post Office, the Office was moved to the MacKay Store and remained there until the Post Office closed on August 7, 1969. All Postal business was carried on from the Breadalbane Office after this date. Now our mail services are either out of Hunter River or Kensington . A further sign of consolidation! One situation dating back to the selling of the property by W.T. Weir to "his heirs and assigns" was the privilege of "using the pump on the said premises situate near the south-west corner" [of the present store] "together with a right-of-way from the land of W.T. Weir and the said pump". This meant that future store owners could not put an addition on the south-west side of the store without enclosing the well. The date of this Indenture was August 13, 1931. Kenneth and Audrey found themselves bound to this Indenture which, by the 1950's, had already been in effect over twenty years. Before an addition could be made on the store the MacKay's were obliged to dig a well for the Ferguson family. The reasoning for placing this clause in a deed was the fear of brackish water or poor water quality when a well is located close to the tidal waters. Shortly after this the MacKays put an addition on the west side and added a warehouse to the east. Kenneth and Audrey retired from the store business in 1977.
