GEORGE ROBINSON GARRETT (1832-April 30, 1913) m. Nov. 21, 1856 HANNAH ANN HODGSON (APRIL 28, 1836-Aug. 2, 1920) {spelled Hudson on Marriage Certificate} daugh- ter of J abez Sr. and Catherine Bernard Hodgson of Glynde Road and Hope River South. In 1880 the Hodgson family was living on a farm in Hope River.

George Robinson Garrett and Hannah Ann Hodgson had at least three children 1. John Hodgson (May 12, 1858-July 4, 1888) m. Barbara Stewart b. 1860 of Cavendish. John and Barbara had one daughter Hannah Louise “Lulu” b. Oct. 1, 1879. 2. Lucy Robinson m. G.A. Hughes - lived in Murray River 3. Janet MacLeod d. April 27, 1943 - lived with her sister in Murray River (Family burial People’s Cemetery Charlottetown)

John Hodgson Garrett was drowned on July 4, 1888 in the Stanley River. Barbara Stewart Garrett later m. David R. Bell, of the Campbellton Road. Lulu married Dr. Stewart Simpson at the home of her grandparents, George R. and Hannah Ann Garrett in Murray River. Their home was located near to her father’s home on the eastern side of the river. {see SIMPSON}

Information on the Garrett family is difficult to verify, however, the following is quoted from The Examiner on May 1, 1913.

George R. Garrett was born in England. His first employment on Prince Edward Island was with Messrs. D. V. and S. Davies, also known as London House. In Stanley Bridge he conducted a thriv- ing business and amassed considerable wealth. He suffered a heavy loss by fire which swept away his (store) property in Stanley in a night, while he had but trifling insurance.
