Archibald J. McLeod Janie MacEwen McLeod (1858-1935) (1872-1924)
ARCHIBALD J. McLEOD (Sept. 18, 1858 — Dec. 27, 1935) second eldest son of Alexander (MLA) and Margaret Matheson McLeod, Valleyfield. AJ. McLeod m. Dec. 25, 1889 to JANIE (JANE) MacEWEN (Aug. 24, 1872 - Sept. 1. 1924), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William MacEwen, Campbellton Rd. They had a family of six children. Their large home, moved around the turn of the Century, has had various owners and today is used as a Tourist Home.
1. Cassie (Oct. 24, 1890 - Feb. 4, 1912) - died young.
2. Margaret Bu_th (Sept. 25, 1892 — Sept. 5, 1957) worked in her father’s store and later went to Summerside to work in the dry goods department of the Sinclair & Stewart store. She also worked for a number of years in the RT. Holman Store. She did not marry.
3. Laura Annie (July 24, 1894 - Oct. 20, 1987) 111. Oct. 20 to Archibald Johnstone (Jan. 3, 1893 — Aug. 3, 1976) a Veteran of World War I and son of John and Janet Johnstone, Long River. Laura and Arch. farmed in Brookfield and had one son Wendall, who was killed in an unfortunate car/train accident in June 1951. Arch. and Laura retired to Clifton, in 1975. [Geddie Memorial Records]
4. Maud Matilda (Oct. 2, 1898 - Jan. 3, 1982) m. Nov. 9, 1921 to Herbert S. MacEwen (Dec. 25, 1897 - July 28, 1986) {see Herbert MacEwen - Campbellton Road}
5. Daniel (Feb. 7, 1907 — 1981) m. Irene Murray (1901-1981) daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John T. Murray of Graham’s Road. {see Daniel MacLeod - south side of road}
6. Vera Mae (Nov. 5,1906 — May 29, 1991) m. Rupert Simpson (Mar. 25, 1900 — May 25, 1993). They resided at BayView Mills and operated a sawmill, as well as their farm business. They had four children: 1. Mary (Byron Houston), Mayfield 2. Claude Simpson, Charlottetown 3. Beverly (Shirley) Simpson - York 4. Herbert (Marilyn) Simpson - BayView Mills.
