He had five brothers who lived in the area, namely, Thomas, Mark, Donald, David and John. James purchased 1'A acres from John C. Clark on April 5, 1898. James moved to Stanley Bridge and set up a carriage building business in the Village East. He was considered to be a fine woodworker and carpenter. He also built a house to the east of this shop. m. 1. Mar. 15, 1881 to EMMERETTA FYFE (1859-1910) daughter of William Jr . and Christianna [Smith] Fyfe. They had one child. 1. Lena (d. before 1913) James m. 2. in 1911 - Mrs. Johanna M. Bryanton daughter of Thomas and Margaret Beairsto Bryanton, Spring Valley . She was married to William Bryanton . William died in 1910. He was hit by a sledge hammer while helping to build the Davidson bridge. 342
