An Artist in our Midst Elva Marie MacKay a prodigy of the Stanley Bridge School system has been recognized for her artistic talents. Her paintings, of superior quality, have been exhibited at art displays in Charlottetown . Being of a modest nature, Elva never bothered to reveal this hidden talent to any¬ one. However, she kept sketching and designing quietly as she worked at her permanent posi¬ tion at the Royal Bank, Charlottetown . During her lifetime Elva gave most of these sketches to members of her family. Elva taught school for a short time before commencing her career with the Bank on April 25, 1945. This liaison lasted for 38 years. As well as her full time work Elva found time to volun¬ teer her time and talents with her church, Trinity United in Charlottetown , The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The Canadian Heart Fund, The Canadian Cancer Society and the 1991 Winter Games. Her greatest joy was when she could visit areas along the North Shore , and especially her beloved village, Stanley Bridge . Many of her artistic designs depicted this scenery. It is with pleasure that the Stanley Bridge History Committee, with the approval of her family, printed two copies of these scenes.
