The Citation reads as follows:

Private MacKay operating theatre assistant at this hospital displayed a combination of enthusiasm, efficiency and initiative far in excess of normal devotion to duty especially during the period August 7—10, 1944, at Bayeux when the most severe casualties were handled by this hospi- tal. At this time the operating tables were in continuous use for a period of 90 hours, and this sol— dier performed the most outstanding service, with exemplary cheerfulness - an example to both staff and patients.

Later Wendall studied Law at Dalhousie University and was admitted to the Bar of Prince Edward Island on April 2, 1971. Wendall had served as Deputy Provincial Secretary from 1962 to 1967. After completing his studies he was appointed Assistant to the Minister of Justice in the Provincial Government.

Jean furthered her studies after W.W.II ended and received her PhD. in H. EC. She was a pro- fessor at the University of Prince Edward Island until her retirement. They built a large home on the Rattenbury Road. After Wendall’s death, Jean sold the property to Cleve and Pauline Ramsay Baker. Wendall and Jean have two children: 1. Flora Emily b. 1965 m. Paul Wood. They live in Toronto and have two children 1. Kenneth Christopher b. July 19, 1995 2. Phillippa Rowan b. July 15, 1997 2. Kenneth Halliday (1967-1987)

On the former Quinn /Wendall MacKay property situated close to the bank of the Stanley River, a cottage was located which belonged to Marion Ryan. Marion re—located the former Tupper Taylor store from North Granville to a ten acre site which was jointly owned by Marion and Wendall. Marion Ryan was the head of the Housekeeping Department at the Provincial Sanitarium for many years. She became familiar with the Stanley Bridge area when Wendall was a patient at

the Sanitarium.
