REID
THOMAS REID (Apr. 25, 1840 — June 8, 1917) eldest son of John Sr. and Margaret Kent Reid, m. Feb. 28, 1876 to TERESA LEONARD (Dec. 17, 1853 - Feb. 17, 1955). Tommy and Teresa farmed 210 acres on the south side of the South West River in Campbellton, Lot 21. This land was purchased from Donald Morrison and his wife in Dec. 1875. In 1912 they moved across from the homestead property to Hope River, Lot 22, where they purchased 141 acres from Robert Fulton Simpson. Teresa, the daughter of Richard Leonard and Elizabeth Mullally came from Cornwall, PEI. In her later years, she was known as the “grand old lady of Hope River.” Tommy and Teresa raised two children, Joseph and Myrtle Burke.

(1) JOSEPH (1880-1949) In 1911 to FLORA O’CONNOR (1881-1934) daughter of James and Bridget Cash O’Connor. Josie and Flora purchased a 128 acre farm in Long River from Thomas Reid in 1912. They bought the Thomas Reid property of 141 acres on the Hope River Road in 1917. In addition to farming Josie was a skilled carpenter. Flora was a homemaker
and together they had six children.
(1.) EILEEN ANN (July 26, 1914 — Feb. 22, 1990) m. June 6, 1934 to JOHN WILFRED McALEER (Dec. 7, 1912 - Jan. 30, 1991). They lived in St.
Patricks, Lot 22 and had six children: 1. Kathleen 2. Shirley 3. Allison 4. Colleen 5. Darlene 6. John
(2.) FRANCES PENELOPE (Penzie) b. June 18, 1916 In. July 22, 1936 to CHARLES GAVIN MCLEER (Nov. 23, 1915 - Nov. 24, 1980). They farmed
in St. Patrick’s, Lot 22. They had five children: 1. Mary 2. Thomas 3. Florence 4. James 5.Ann
