Margaret Kent Reid

The Reid name came to Lot 22 through JOHN REID and MARGARET KENT. Margaret, daughter of Robert Kent, emigrated from New Ross Co. in Wexford Ireland. It is thought that she came in 1835 with her brother Nicholas Kent and her sister, Bridget (Kent) Fitzsimmons. In 1837, Margaret met John Reid, son of Thomas Reid and Mary Hayden of County Offaly, Ireland. They were married on Feb. 15, 1838 in South Rustico by the Bishop of Charlottetown, B.D. MacDonald, who then resided at South Rustico. They built a home in Hope River just below where Lea and Marion live today. The 1841 census states that John and Margaret farmed 36 acres of land. By 1861 they held 111 acres in leasehold from proprietor Lawrence Sullivan. Fifty acres of this was on the North Road. The other 25 acres was land leased to Cornelius Murphy on the Graveyard Hill. John and Margaret had eight sons and four daughters. Six sons married and farmed near the homestead property. The four daughters were married on PEI, but

three of them moved to the USA. Their children are:
