Walter Reid was a self employed builder for most of his life. His love for carpentry called him to follow this job line. The hip roof barn which he constructed on his property was the first of a number of barns which he built in Stanley and vicinity.

To educate himself in carpentry, he spent many hours reading and studying books and plans. He also wrote many bills of lumber. His carpentry work extended to raising and moving hous- es. The work often took him away from home for extensive periods. Because of winter road conditions and distances from home, he often had to board with people near the project.

In the early 1940’s, he worked on construction at the Charlottetown Airport. And in 1949 he was the contractor for the construction of Hunter River Roman Catholic Church.

Walter and May moved to West Royalty in 1955 where they built their own home. Walter then constructed a number of houses in the Charlottetown area. He later became an employee of Bagnall’s Ltd. and continued to work on houses, barns, piggeries, etc . . . One can point with pride to the many buildings which he helped construct over the years.
