James Reid In (82) and Sr. Ida Reid C.N.D. (90) unveil the memorial plaque in 1979 at Lea and Marion Reid’s property on the Hope River Road

In 1979 about 350 descendants of John and Margaret Kent Reid gathered in Hope River for their first reunion. Relatives came from California, Massachusetts and Maine in the United States and from every province in Canada. Lea, a great grandson, and Marion Reid hosted the gathering at which a memorial was unveiled. The first Reid genealogy which was compiled by Sister Ida Reid was made available to those in attendance.

The plaque on the memorial reads as follows

This memorial erected by the descendants of John Reid to commemorate the arrival from County Wexford, Ireland and settlement of this site by John Reid and Margaret Kent in the year 1837.
