PICKERING
HUGH THEODORE (1859-1921) son of William III and Jane Fyfe Pickering m. 1886 to FLORA CATHERINE TANTON (1864-1927) daughter of William and Mary Ann
MacArthur Tanton of Linkletter.
Theodore and Flora were the last of the Pickering families to farm in Stanley Bridge on land which was originally leased to William I in 1775. Theodore Pickering exited from his property onto the “Bumblebee Road”. Theodore and Flora adopted a daughter named Rita who m. Rev. Fred Wotton and lived in Charlottetown. Rita died Sept. 2, 1983 and is buried in Crapaud Cemetery. In 1918, the Pickerings sold the farm to Thomas, Albert and James Hiscott and retired to Hunter River. The Pickerings are buried in the Hunter River Cemetery.
HISCOTT
JAMES (Mar. 30, 1891 — Feb. 21, 1975) son of Thomas Sr. and Frances Jane Chalk Hiscott m. to LEONORA BELLE MacARTHUR (Sept. 29, l892 — May 15, 1967).
“Jim” and Leonora Hiscott farmed on the Theodore Pickering property which bordered on Anderson’s Creek. Jim’s brother, Albert, owned the farm across the road. Thomas Sr. and his two sons also had a sawmill business on the river. Jim and Leonora’s home was destroyed in a fire. At this time the family moved to the village and lived for a while in the Honeywell Bulman house. Later, they built a house next to the United Church. This home is now owned by George and Jean Harding. Leonora Hiscott was Post Mistress for a number of years after the family moved to the village. James and Leonora Hiscott had one daughter.
