Macdonald Bros , have again opened their canning establishment and from 40 to 50 sheep and 10 heads of cattle fall victims to the butcher's knife every day. The butchering department is under the management of A.P. Hobbs and the preserving by A.M. Cunningham . His beef and lobster speak fore themselves, and requires no puffing." (Weekly Examiner. Oct. 1883) Oldest Bride and Groom " Georgetown can boast the oldest bride and groom. The groom, Mr. Alexander McDonald , formerly of Port Hood, C.B. is 75 years old and his bride Mrs. S. O' Brien , 77. Strange as it may seem these two spent their school years together over 68 years ago." (Weekly Examiner, Nov. 1883) Michael Burke at Work " Mr. Michael Burke , of Georgetown , has about completed painting the interior of All Saint's Church, Cardigan . The graining is oak and walnut and matches the pews. The altar, built entirely of marble and greystone, is pronounced by competent judges the best work of its kind in Prince Edward Island ." (Weekly Examiner. Jan, 11, 1883) Georgetown School .1885 The school had three departments. The teachers were Ewen Stewart , principal, Charles R. McNeill and Miss Maggie Mooney . Among students noted for good work in various subjects that year were Reuben MacDonald , Albert McLaren , George Sobey , Temple Macdonald , Matilda MacDonald , Amanda MacDonald , Mary Levengie , Willie MacLaren , Minnie Bourke , John F. Owen , Seymour Knight , and Parmenas McLeod Reuben MacDonald went on to lead the Island in entrance marks to Prince of Wales College. Also passing entrance exams were Albert McLaren , Albert Tapper , & Lillie Monroe . (Weekly Examiner. Parmenas McLeod won prizes for public speaking and eventually became a Presbyterian minister.] Regatta at Georgetown "The regatta at Georgetown on Saturday last was in every respect a very successful and satisfactory one. The day was beautifully fine with a fresh breeze blowing from the south?? west. A number of people witnessed the different races from the wharves. About 25 or 30 boats attended and 12 entered, viz, Flying Cloud, Genesta, Carita , William , Wanderer, Young Henry , Puritan, Sea Foam , Swan Island, Queen Maud and Eddy. The first prize in the final race was won by the Genesta, Capt. James Hemphiel (sic) and the second by Island Queen, Capt. Allan . Young Henry was the second boat to cross the line, but through an error in turning the buoy, the wrong side lost the prize. In the second race, the Puritan, Capt. Job [John?] Hemphill won first place followed closely by Flying Cloud, Capt .Thornton , who won second prize. The race for beaten boats was won by the cat-boat Carita .
