Mar. 22, 1935, Patriot: St. James' Dramatic Club puts on "The Hand of the Law" with James Boudreault acting the main character. Apr. 1, 1935, Patriot: The Women's Institute organizes a meeting with town council and war veterans to plan a war memorial; among the suggestions: a townclock, draining & beautifying the square, or erecting a monument. The veterans preferred the latter. [Eventually it was decided to build a cairn on Institute grounds on the Square; rock was hauled in from Nova Scotia . April 6, 1935, Patriot: A Women's Guild is formed in support of Holy Trinity Church. Mrs. Ashley Allen was elected president, Mrs. Clarke , vice-president, Rose Fairchild , secretary, and Beatrice Skinner , treasurer. May 8, 1935, Patriot: Percy Boudreault resigns as R.C.M.P . officer for Georgetown ; succeeded eventually by " Mr. Edwards ." May 8, 1935, Patriot: King George's Jubilee is celebrated. (25th anniversary of accession) with parade, bonfire etc.. May 8, 1935, Patriot: John Hanson , Burnt Point , "begins his 60th season of continuous fishing, still rowing his own boat out to his gear on the Burnt Point reef." May 15, 1935, Patriot: Georgetown area farmers petition government for a $10 per cultivated acre bonus because the continuing low prices for potatoes makes it impossible for them to meet expenses. May 18, 1935, Patriot: Capt. Charles Fitzgerald is commissioned to build the Rocky Point ferry. June 13f 1935, Patriot: " Billy " Keeping is visiting home. He was a member of a circus for years and now with a partner he owns one large enough to require 16 trucks to move it. He spent an evening entertaining youth groups at St. David's Church with sleight of hand, etc.. July 3, 1935, Guardian: At the Georgetown Field Day, Amos Lavandier won the award for best all-round athlete and Peakes won the baseball tournament. Aug. 1, 1935, Patriot: Evelyn Hessian leads the Island in Entrance Exams [She also received Gov-Gens. medal in G.H.S . in 1935.] Teachers in G.H.S . for 1935-6 are Joseph Kiggins , Prin.; J. A.B. McConnell , V-P. and Anna MacLaren , Agnes French and Joseph Scully . Sept. 26, 1935, Patriot: Local fishermen meet to discuss forming a union along the lines of the one in Tignish ; James Condon chaired; steps are taken. Nov. 12, 1935, Guardian: War Memorial is unveiled at Georgetown by Miss Bella MacPhee , sister of former Attorney- General H .F. MacPhee , and president of the local Women's Institute.
