As I Remember Them
tetown. Ralph MacNeill joined the Navy as a very young man. Alex Stewart joined the Army for a short time. He became a carpenter after the war. Malcolm MacLean (Norman's brother) joined the Navy. After the war he left Little Sands to work off Island.
Norman MacLean joined the RCAF, became a Wire- less Operator, and served time in India and became an officer before returning home. He went to Prince of Wales College where he took two years in one year. He must have been an excellent student as he had never had Latin, French, geometry or algebra in school. I am not surprised that he became an engineer. He worked at his trade until he retired. He is still living in Little Sands and, as far as I can recall, he is one of the only two vet- erans that still reside in Little Sands.
Ernest MacLeod, the other remaining veteran, joined the Navy. Following the war he worked in Montreal be- fore his return to Little Sands where he built the only brick house in Little Sands.
Lloyd Wheeler joined the Navy and after the war he worked on the Wood Islands ferry.
Although Little Sands was a small community, it in- deed contributed its full share to the war effort.
