Since St. Peters became incorporated as a village in 1953, there have been numerous volunteers working toward the organizing, implementing of new ideas and programs, and overall well being of the community. The minute books for the St. Peters Bay Village Commission reflect the involvement the Commission had in the establishment of the rink, the various buildings that the fire hall and library have been located in over the years, and the St. Peters Park, which was originally referred to as the “Trailer Park and Picnic Area." The Commission obtained people to look after light bulbs for the streetlights in the 19505, oversaw the building of a new bridge in St. Peters in the 1960s, witnessed the inauguration of the new dial system in the 1970s, and had new Seniors Units built on the north shore of the Bay by the early 1980s.

One interesting fact is that in February of 1964, correspondence Was read pertaining to the possibility of a National Park to be erected at the North Shore. Over thirty years later, this became a reality with the
announcement of the National Park to be opened in Greenwich in July of 2000.
