In the 1980-19905, women’s ice hockey resurfaced. Unlike the women before them, these young women did not play with skirts on. The sport of ringette also emerged, with St. Peters having one of the original teams in Kings County. According to Donnie Sanderson who coached ringette for seven years:

Ringette really started in Eastern PEI between Souris, St. Peters,

and Montague. I worked with the Provincial team and traveled

away to the Nationals on several occasions. It just happened that in 1991, the Canada Winter Games were in Charlottetown, and I was picked to coach that team. That was a good experience and it was perhaps one of the best teams the PEI ever had. I’ve never known of one that did any better than they did. The young women from the Bay that were on that team were Megan Burge, Donna and Jacqueline Sanderson, Shannon Larkin and Tracey MacDonald. (40)
