CHASING PIGS In 1932, a bus service* from Elmira to Charlottetown was introduced, which operated until the-mid 1970s. For twenty-one of those years, between 1954 and 1975, Henry O' Brien of Souris drove the bus. According to Henry's daughter Barb Clinton , "he got to know everybody from here to Charlottetown and everybody knew him. He enjoyed his work because he got to meet so many people." (53) The only official stop on this run was first at the Snack Bar and later at Chaisson's Restaurant in Souris . Those who wished to take the bus simply stood at the end of their lane and waved for the bus to stop, as many did in the St. Peters area. During his time driving the bus, Henry kept a diary in which he mentioned several interesting events relating to St. Peters . In December of 1960, Henry recorded that because of a really bad storm, he had to stop in Morell , where he waited four hours for the road to be cleared to The bus service was taken over by IMT Bus Company in 1936, and later by the SMT Bus Company. 222
