Caroline McDougald his wife, and Adelinda E. Lidstone 0f Tyne Valley, wife of Charles I. Lidstone. The description of the property shows it to be where the Lidstone store was located. A map of Tyne Valley at the archives, revised to October, 1910 has a Gen’l Store marked on that loca- tion. Other conveyances show that Charles I. Lidstone obtained land from different people at different times from 191 1—1921. It is believed he had a few foxes. John A. McDougald’s blacksmith shop is remembered by some residents, as being a short distance up the hill from the Lidstone store. Part of the large Lidstone building was for family living quarters, including a large parlor upstairs. Dr. Alexander Palmer, a dentist in O’Leary, who came to Tyne Valley on Saturdays, used part of the building for a dentist’s office. Dr. Palmer had married Alvaretta Hart, Adelinda's sister.
The Lidstone store was well stocked with a wide variety of merchandise besides groceries. Mrs. Lidstone was a talented milliner and made many hats for ladies. She also sold other articles of clothing, dry goods, house- hold necessities, etc, including oil for lamps. They owned some cows and had fresh milk for sale, which was put in standard quart milk bottles and capped, in the cool basement.
