In 1959 he reported: In Ellerslie, a new four-room school was erected to serve the needs of Ellerslie & Bideford districts, which were amalgamated a few years ago. This school is modern and up-to-date in every way and has proven this past year that, the fewer grades a teacher has to teach, the better the results will be. The new four-room school was the same school, with a second level added making two classrooms on each level.

That same year legislation was passed providing for the establishment of Regional High Schools. In 1960 definite steps had been taken to have Regional High Schools in O’Leary, Alberton and Tignish with bus sys- tems established. In 1963 a Regional Unit was formed in the Ellerslie- Tyne Valley area. Although no school was built, the Board of Trustees made arrangements with Athena, Miscouche and O’Leary, to take the high school pupils for that year.

Inspector Callaghan reported in 1965: Attended several meetings this past year, where the question of consolidation of the elementary schools was discussed. Considerable interest and enthusiasm were aroused.
