He estimated that the replacement value of the steeple might run to $3,000 or $4,000. and said the work of rebuilding will begin as soon as possible.

A large number of parishioners quickly gathered and assisted in any way they could.

It is believed that water with which to fight the fire was readily available in a nearby stream.

The Tyne Valley Fire Department received $100 from the Grand River Parish for assistance at the church fire. On November 25, 1965 a meeting of the Tyne Valley Fire Department was held in Tyne Valley Garage. Officers elected were: Arnold Nisbet, President; Dean Crosby, Secretary— Treasurer; Carman MacNeill, re-elected Fire Chief; Arnold Nisbet and Nelson Sheen, Deputies. Others present at the meeting were Leigh Maynard, Clifford Biggar, Edison Williams, Horace Newcombe, Robert Millar, Bill Biggar, Edwin Hansen, Henry Mooney, Vaughn Ramsay, Roland MacDougall, Dr. Geoffrey Robinson and Melvin Marchbank.

In the early 1960’s, the Fire Department moved to a building near the mill pond. The building was originally Dougald Stewart’s shop where he built sleighs. Later it was used for living quarters for awhile. When it became the Fire Hall, a basement was made providing extra space and a Fireman’s Club was organized. The building that had previously been the

Fire Hall was sold and is used for a summer cottage at a shore in Bideford.

In 1979 a new Fire Hall was built with funding from various sources. It is located across the road from the Community Sports Centre. It is large and modern with a bay large enough to accommodate four fire trucks. It has a well-equipped kitchen, banquet room, bar, lounges, meeting rooms, entry and washrooms.
