The store opened in September 8,1936. The ad in the "Guardian" read, "OPENING OF NEW CASH AND CARRY STORE". As it turned out very little was bought for cash and I spent most of my free time delivering groceries. Some of the items for sale that first day included: 3 packages of Corn Flakes for 23 cents; 8 rolls of toilet tissue for 25 cents; 10 pounds of onions for 17 cents; and 2 pounds of Perfection butter for 55 cents. Sales for the first day came to a grand total of $7.00.
