My grandfather came to Canada around the year 1900. After peddling long enough to save some cash, he opened a general store in St. Damien, Quebec. In 1927, my parents, who had just been married for two years, moved to the next village of St. Paul to open their own general store.

My father also served as the village barber and the dentist. Because my mother's only sister, Mary (Mrs.Joseph Kays), was in Charlottetown, and the fact that there was a relatively large Lebanese community here, the decision was made to move to
Charlottetown.
