in 1969 then went to Holland College in 1970 to set up the Business Administration Program. I was involved with Holland College for the next 26 years. For six of those years, I also worked in Premier Joe Ghiz’s office and as Director of

Municipal Affairs.

In 1964, at the urging of a news reporter by the name of Ralph Cameron, I ran for city council and won by 12 votes. This is the same Mr. Cameron to whom I delivered groceries on the cold winter night years before. He had since divorced and lived with his father two houses up from our store. He was a lawyer, but never set up practice.

His father, J. E. Cameron, lived to be 100 years old. The elder Mr. Cameron was an inventor who, in 1925, described in detail the signal

light, which would come into use in cars some years later.

The new store quickly became as successful as the first store and it was about three times as large. We added a fresh meat counter and hired a full-time butcher, Vernon Burke, who stayed with us until we sold the store in 1978. By this time, Yvonne married and moved to Montreal, Joe and Abe worked full-time and Jean, Margaret and I were still in school, but worked part time when needed. We only had one refrigerator at that time, a six foot by six foot walk-in cooler and the ten foot closed-
