WILLIAM AND JESSIE SCOTT AND DESCENDANTS

William Scott was born in 1786, and died February 6, 1870 in Marshfield. He came to PEI from Strathbrand, Perthshire, Scotland, arriving in Charlottetown in 1808 on the Clarendon. On November 16, 1813 he married Jessie Forbes, who was born in 1793 and died August 6, 1880. Both are buried in the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery. They had children John, Grace, William James, Alexander, Jessie, James and Charles. William farmed the land adjoining the MacBeath property in Lot 34 on the Hillsborough River, which had previously been settled by Duncan Ferguson and his wife Ann Stewart. It is noted in William’s will drawn on January 8, 1855 that he appointed son John, wagon maker in Charlottetown, as executor, and sons Alexander, James, and Charles received monetary bequests.

William James Scott was born in 1822 and died June 29, 1890. He married Jane Stewart, born in 1821, and died January 9, 1901. Both are buried in the Marshfield Pioneer Cemetery. They had children William James, J annet, and Charles.

William James Scott was born November 14, 1855 and died April 18, 1937. On December 1, 1886 he married Louisa Weatherbie of Village Green. She was born May 20, 1856, died

October 3, 1938, and both are buried in Central United Church Cemetery, Dunstaffnage. They had children Florence Jean, Stanley James, Charles William, Janet Helen, Emma Louise, and Alexander Timothy. William continued to farm the Scott property, and was a very successful millwright. He had a factory on the farm where he manufactured threshing machines and horse- power treadmills, which were widely sold under the “Excel” and “Champion” brand names. It was noted that he was very thorough and painstaking in all his work. The 1891 census shows William’s mother Jane and his paternal aunt Grace were living with the family at that time. William’s father had also stipulated in his will of May 17, 1890 that William was to provide for his brother Charles who was hospitalized, as well as a cousin Jane Stewart who lived with the family.

Stanley James Scott was born June 3, 1888 and died April 14, 1971. On October 15, 1919 he married Maria Mae Stewart, born March 22, 1893, and died October 16, 1974, daughter of John Edmund Stewart and Martha Miller of Dunstaffnage. Both are buried in the Community Cemetery, Marshfield. They had children Eleanor Jean, Lois Mae, Allison William (Allie), and Wilma Mary. Stanley received by deed in 1919 the northern 75 acres of the Scott farm, with frontage along the St. Peters Road. He was an excellent carpenter, and built the family home and barns that still exist on this property.

Allison “Allie” William Scott remained at home and worked the family farm, which was deeded to him following his father’s death. On June 19, 1976 in Cavendish Church, Allie married Myra Lucinda Louise Laird (daughter of Ray Laird and Hazel Chandler, North Rustico). Myra and Allie named their farm “River View Farm” and operated a Bed and Breakfast. They are active members of St. Columba Presbyterian Church where Myra serves as organist. They continue the tradition set by Allie’s parents of maintaining the farm premises in an extremely tidy condition. Allie and Myra have no children but have become like surrogate grandparents to Kevin and Amanda, children of Peter and Maja Srnit who own the adjoining river front property, the farm originally settled by Allie’s ancestors.
