William and Jessie Scott and Descendants
Alexander Timothy (Alex) Scott was born November 24, 1898 and died May 9, 1995. On October 12, 1932 he married Ruth Gertrude Dennis, born November 3, 1906, died July 11, 1994, daughter of Enoc Dennis and Eliza Squarebriggs. Both are buried in Central United Church Cemetery, Dunstaffnage. They had children Marjorie Ruth, Lona Isabel, and Preston Alexander. Alex farmed with his father William the remaining portion of the Scott land which he inherited following his father’s death. This was sold in 1969 to Murray N. Scott (no relationship) when Alex and Ruth moved with their son Preston and family to the Foster farm in Marshfleld. Alex and Ruth enjoyed music and were faithful choir members in Central United Church. Alex was one of the men involved in the ground preparation when this church was built in 1927.
Preston Alexander Scott farmed with his father the portion of the Scott farm bordering on the Hillsborough River. (It should be noted that although there were two separate Scott farms since 1919 it was the custom for many years to share labour and machinery and as late as 1969 Stanley, Alex, Allie and Preston worked together harvesting potatoes on each farm.) Preston married Pauline Swan of York. They had children Wendy, Andrea and Janet. In 1969 Preston purchased Heath Foster’s property in Marshfield giving them the advantage of increased acreage and an easier access to the St. Peter’s Road. The farm buildings were replaced with several new barns for a dairy operation until 1995. Since then Preston has been engaged in raising Simmental beef cattle.
