HOMEMADE SOAP

3 quart jars of lat drippings 1 t. salt

1 lb. can lye 2 T. sugar

1 quart cold water '/2 c. cold water 3 t. borax ‘A c. ammonia

Save lat drippings in quart jars. When you have 3 quarts, thoroughly clean it by boiling it in an equal amount of water. Place kettle in a cold place to Firm lat. Cut fat from kettle sides. Pour oil water and waste. Scrape off excess wastes From bottom oi lard cake. Clean kettle and replace lard cake; melt over low heat. Dissolve the lye in 1 quart cold water and let stand until cool, then add melted Fat slowly. Stir constantly. Mix other ingredients together and add to First mix- ture. (‘A c. pine oil may also be added at this time.) Stir until the whole mixture is thick and honey- colored. Pour into a pan lined with a clean white cloth. Before the soap becomes hard mark pieces into desired size or lorm into balls. When hard, pile in such a way that it may dry out well.
