Introduction
The reason for publishing “The Complete Boole Of Island Churches At The Turn Of The Century" is to provide tuture generations with a visual history of the church buildings oi Prince Edward Island as they appeared in the year 2000. The photographs from which the sleetches were drawn were taleen over a number of years on both sides of the year 2000. In any case, it is fair to state that this record of Island Churches is reasonably accurate and reflects the year 2000 at which time we celebrated
the Turn Of The Century.
On the date of publication, there were approximately 300 church buildings on Prince Edward Island. As I compiled this collection, a number of churches were closing, others being demolished, new churches being built and many more being renovated. As I have come to appreciate, church memberships and church settings evolve on a continual basis; thus, the total nulnber of buildings varies from year to year. This boole otters three hundred and two sleetches and covers Prince County, Queens County, Kings County, Summerside and Charlottetown.
As this project progressed, a number of Island residents provided photos of churches that were no longer in operation. I have included them in this boole; in order to distinguish them trom the main group of churches, each has been given the designation 1From The Past'.
With the publication of “The Complete Boole Oi Island Churches", the {our boole historical project (Boole 1 - Queens), (Boole 2 - Prince), (Boole 3 - Kings) and (Boole 4s - The Complete Boole) comes to an end . The preparation oi the trilogy and the
compilation of the three booles was an adventure which has taleen me to all parts of the “Island" - an experience of high interest
and full of joy!
