when the minister of the day, Rev. Ralph Johnston, lobbied
for the work to be done to make space for Sunday School rooms.
1962-63 saw several changes in the church’s interior. The three rows of pews were removed and replaced by two rows with a centre aisle. While this work was in progress, a new tile floor was laid. The new seats were installed in 1963 at a cost of $1,764.74; the United Church Women paid $740 with the remainder coming from the congregation.
When the church was first built, the choir and pulpit area consisted of a narrow, slightly raised platform. As the choir grew, it was deemed necessary to increase the size of the platform; in 1930, a choir loft was built. The original horse- hair love seat, donated by the elders at the opening of the church, was replaced by three pulpit chairs. It is believed the love seat was discarded. Sets of red velvet curtains hung on rods draping the church area on each side of the choir loft. The curtained areas were used for Sunday school rooms or for wedding parties to retire behind, to sign the register. The choir stayed this way until 1985 when it was remodeled in memory of Lloyd Carr. The work was carried out by car- penters Archie Hutchinson and Edmond Gallant, and con- gregation members Erskine Forbes and Clarence Carr. New carpeting was put down and choir books were purchased in memory of Maisy Clark and Sterling MacLean.
