The purpose of the Society, which met for one hour on the first Wednesday of each month, was to stimulate an interest in the mission of the church and to help its members learn about and aid those who were devoting their lives to missionary work. Each member was asked to pay one dollar yearly membership; occa¬ sional members paid fifty cents. The purpose of the Woman's Missionary Society was fulfilled in a two-fold way: worship and service. Worship consisted of opening devotions at each meeting, regular Thank Offering services, and an annual World Day of Prayer Service. The offering received from the World Day of Prayer Service was used for overseas relief, as well as for the distribution of Christian literature to women and children in Canada and distant lands. Service found expression in the form of the sponsorship of three Baby Band ; Mission Band and CGIT Church Groups (Canadian Girls in Training).3 The following letter, written on behalf of the Woman's Missionary Society, was found in a scrapbook kept by Annie ( Mrs. Lloyd ) Carr. Its contents reflect the compassion of the membership extended to a woman in distress. The lady to whom the letter is addressed had experienced the loss of a child. The letter offers a glimpse into the work of the Woman's Missionary Society and the impact their caring had on the Lot 16 community.
