REFLECTION: Dorothy (Monkley) MacLean Given at 125th Anniversary Celebration

As I was thinking what I would talk about, my mind wandered back to my Sunday School days some 50 years ago. I had wondey‘ul teachers. Some that come to mind are Mr. 8 Mrs. Clarence McFadden and Mrs. Evelyn Yeo.

In those days we had homework to do in preparation for our classes. As I remember we had workbooks where we would have questions that required Bible study. We memorized various verses and passages from the Bible, Psalm 23, the Beatitudes, Lord’s Prayer and Books of the Bible.

We had a Catechism as well and we were required to learn the answers to the questions. I memorized that book from cover to cover and, as a result, I was awarded a Certfiicate for this accomplishment. I was 10 years old so I was very proud to receive this Certificate, and 51 years later I’m still proud of it.

I have to this day a little Bible that I received from Mrs. Yeo. It was inscribed ‘Presented to Dorothy MonkleyflJr the best prepared Sunday School lessons dur— ing the summer of 1952 Evelyn M. YEO, Teacher.’ What beauty’ul memories!
