On April 10, 1895, Rev. Mr. MacLeod performed the marriage of Thomas M. Linkletter to Clara Creswell, a sis- ter of Mrs. Edward Lockhart. From this union came the fol- lowing children: Amy (Mrs J. C. Townsend), Maxfield, Bradford, Harold, Leland, Irene (Mrs. Ralph Silliphant) and Zilpha.
In the early 19205 Thomas moved to Summerside. From 1923 to 1927 he was Registrar of Deeds for Prince County. In 1919, and again in 1923, he ran for the provincial legis- lature in the 5th District of Prince suffering defeat in both instances. In 1935 he offered in the 3rd District of Prince. This time, in a provincial Liberal landslide, he won his seat. The Liberals, under Premier Walter Lea, won all thirty seats in the assembly. Linkletter ran undefeated for the Liberals in the elections of 1939, 1943 and 1947. He retired from poli— tics in 1951.20
Mr. Linkletter was a supporter of the United Church of Canada. He died Monday, February 15, 1954.
Edward William Clark (1932—
Edward William (Eddie) Clark was born on March 24, 1932, the second child of Maisie and Ivan Clark. The family lived on the Lyle Road in Belmont. In 1952, Eddie and his father purchased the Jimmy Higgins property on what is now known as the Eddie Clark Road. On this farm the two Clark men set up a suc- cessful beef and forage operation. Eddie is still deeply involved in the farm operation. In 1958 Eddie married Ruby Best and has a family of three daughters.
Eddie is a man of community. He has served as
President of the Prince Edward IslandJunior Farmers, President of the Prince Edward Island Shorthorn Breeders’ Association, and was a member of the Federation of Agriculture. In 1956, he became the first leader of the Lot 16 4-H Calf Club and later overall club leader. During Eddie’s tenure as 4-H leader, the club received many awards and honours. In 1976, after twenty years, Eddie resigned as overall leader of the club due to work commitments.
