On April 29,1932 a meeting of the O’Leary Dairying and Cold Storage Co. Ltd. was held at the O’ Leary Hall for the purpose of closing the company under the Voluntary Winding-up Act.
In 1932-1933 W.B. McLellan, well-known farmer and promoter of the cooperative
movement, who worked tirelessly for the promotion of various cooperative enter— prises in the area and throughout the Maritimes, was honoured by the Maritime
Cooperative Services in recognition of his service as president of its predecessor,
the Maritime Livestock Board, to which the Banner Livestock Shipping Club was
affiliated. To date there is no information on the official ending of the Elmsdale
Farmers’ Institute. An ad in the Island Farmer on February 27, 1935 indicated agri- cultural meetings were being held in various communities, including Elmsdale, un- der the direction of the Provincial Department of Agriculture. The West Prince Dairy— ing and Cold Storage Co.’ Ltd. was buying poultry, live and dressed, at their new
plant in O’Leary (Island Farmer November 4, 1936).
